Residents will have their chance to view the final designs for the Hammersmith Academy

Organised by the sponsors of the academy, the Mercers’ Company and the Information Technologists’ Company, the exhibition will take place on the site of the proposed new school at Stamford House in Melina Road, Shepherds Bush, from Thursday, September 11, to Saturday, September 13.

The Hammersmith Academy will be a neighbourhood school for children of all abilities and will have specialisms in creative and digital media and information technology. It will cater for students aged 11 to 18.

Representatives of the academy’s sponsors as well as the architects and project managers will be on hand to answer questions about the proposed school.

Mike Marchant, head of education at the Mercers’ Company, said: “This exhibition will provide an opportunity to find out more about the proposed school and talk to some of those involved in its design and planning. If given the go-ahead by the council, it will become an integral part of the local area so I hope people will come to the exhibition and see how it will look and operate. Currently, more than half of children in this area attend schools outside the borough and the academy will respond to Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s commitment to deliver a new secondary school.”

Tom Ilube of the Information Technologists’ Company said: “The Hammersmith Academy will provide a new much-needed secondary school with a focus on creative and digital media and information technology that will link well with existing west London networks. The public exhibition provides another chance to meet the Hammersmith Academy team following consultation that took place in late 2007 and early 2008. I encourage residents to come along and give their comments before the plans are submitted to the council in mid-October.”

The exhibition takes place at Stamford House in Melina Road on these days:
l Thursday, September 11, from 4-8pm
l Friday, September 12, from 4-8pm
l Saturday, September 13, from 10am-1pm
The proposed Hammersmith Academy would open in 2011, with its first intake of 120 Year 7 and 100 Year 12 students.
