Police are appealing for witnesses after eight Bobbies and five other people were assaulted on Hammersmith Broadway.
Trouble erupted in the early hours of Sunday 10 August after Police attended three separate incidents on the Broadway.
Officers were first called out at 12.20am after reports of a fight. They found a 27-year old man on the ground with stab wounds. An 18-year-old man was later arrested and charged with possession of an offensive weapon and grievous bodily harm.
At 1.35am police returned after a scuffle broke out with up to fifty people involved. Officers arrested three people for public order offences, but had to return at 2.05am when violence flared again.
While making four more arrests eight Police officers were assaulted, with three requiring hospital treatment. One sustained a head injury and concussion while another badly sprained her wrist.
Cllr Greg Smith, H&F Council Cabinet Member for Crime & Anti-social Behaviour, said: “This council will do anything we possibly can to support our local Bobbies. Any hooligan who attacks members of the public and Police officers deserves time behind bars. It is intolerable that Police officers, who are there to protect the law abiding majority, are being attacked in such a vicious manner.”
The news of the violent incident comes as figures continue to show the borough getting safer. Last year there were 2,115 fewer victims of crime and that improvement has already been built on this year with more than 400 fewer victims of crime reported.
Cllr Smith continues: “The incident in the Broadway is not a common occurrence but when things like this do happen we need to act swiftly and aggressively to catch the perpetrators. The impressive reductions that we have seen in crime locally prove our strong approach with the Police is working.”
Police Borough Commander, Chief Superintendent Kevin Hurley, added: “We will not tolerate assaults on our officers. I am asking residents to back their local Bobbies by calling us if you know these aggressive criminals. The streets will become even safer for you and your family when these hooligans are locked up.
“When we have identified all of the perpetrators they can expect an early morning knock at their doors. In future, we will be putting special emphasis on ensuring all those who can be identified from CCTV in any similar incidents will be put before the court.”
