A brand new primary school for French pupils will be opening in the borough next month.

The new school will be based on the site of the former Peterborough Primary School with the site being leased to the French government so that they can expand their educational offer.

Over four per cent of children in Hammersmith & Fulham are from French families and many currently need to travel across the borough to South Kensington for their education. The new school means that they shall be able to gain education closer to home.

The council will use this school as a catalyst to offer local children bilingual places in the future.

Cllr Antony Lillis, cabinet member for community and children’s services, said: “We are very keen to offer local parents new school choices and we will be talking further to the French school about using their expertise to offer bilingual schooling within our own state school system in the future.

This is a very exciting time for education in the borough and we look forward to the school opening.”
