A flu pandemic is the gravest threat we face and it could claim up to 750,000 lives, according to a new National Risk Register.

The document shows how government advisors rate the likelihood and potential impact of various risks. It puts a flu pandemic top of the list, followed by flooding, major accidents and terror attacks. It says that while a terrorist attack is a more likely, a flu pandemic, flooding and a major industrial accident would have a much more widespread impact.

Hammersmith & Fulham council says it has well planned and rehersed contingency plans in place to cope with any major incident in the borough. It has updated its website with useful information on how residents can plan for themselves and on how the council is working with the health authority, police and other services to plan ahead.

Concerned residents can find more advice on the website at www.lbhf.gov.uk/emergency.

In the event of any major emergency, the council will publish information updates and advice on the www.lbhf.gov.uk homepage.
