A recent exhibition on Shepherds Bush Green has once again proved residents are happy with plans to improve the area.

Seventy-three per cent of residents agreed that overall suggestions for the new-look Green were very good or good. The figures come following an in-depth display at the W12 Shopping Leisure Centre in Shepherds Bush last month. The last public consultation on the project showed each aspect of the Green in more detail than residents have previously seen.

Plans include children’s play areas, improved CCTV and lighting and a brand new café.
The design of the young children’s play area scored highly with 70 per cent of respondents saying it was good or very good and 66 per cent of people gave the same opinions about the older children’s area. The café also did well with 62 per cent of people who took part in the questionnaire liking the appearance of the building.

Earlier in the year, residents gave the Green a resounding thumbs-up, sharing their positive opinions about the £3 million improvements, with 13 of the 14 aspects hitting at least 60 per cent in the approval ratings. The two most popular aspects were the boulevards around the Green’s perimeter and the pedestrian path network on the common.

The project is part of Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s ParkLife campaign to improve the borough’s numerous parks and open spaces and encourage residents to enjoy these green spaces.

Cabinet member for residents’ services, Councillor Paul Bristow, said: “This project will benefit the whole of the community, breathing new life into a green space that needs regenerating. The plans look fantastic and I’m sure that once residents see the new designs, they will start to get as excited as I am about it.”

A planning application is now being prepared, taking residents’ views on board, and work on the new-look Green is expected to start in late spring next year.
