Local voluntary and community groups are being invited to apply for small grants of up to £5,000 through Hammersmith and Fulham Council's Fast Track scheme.
In the latest round of funding the council has set aside £150,000 to help the many voluntary and community groups that work on a range of valuable projects in the borough. Groups are invited to apply for the third round of funding after 70 groups won council backing in October 2007 and 72 groups in March this year.
The Fast Track scheme is part of a £4.2 million pot with previous grants helping projects designed for children, older and disabled people as well as local heritage, environmental and crime reduction schemes.
Cllr Antony Lillis, Cabinet Member for Community and Children’s Services, said: “Our Fast Track scheme is delivering what it was supposed to. We promised that the grants pot would be made available to small groups wanting fairly modest sums of money as well as to the larger groups which the council has historically supported.
“I am delighted that we have been able to support 142 small projects since October 2007 and I have no doubt that there will be may more worthwhile projects that are successful this time around.”
Melanie Kemps, Director of H&F Action Trust for the Blind, said: “We received £4,700 in March to help fund our subsidised lunch club for blind and partially sighted people on a Thursday. It has been a great help and I would encourage other small voluntary groups in H&F to apply to the council’s Fast Track scheme. We have found that it is a very easy process with comparatively little form filling.”
