White City Neighbourhood Forum launched

Monday September 26, 2011

21 local residents have been chosen to sit on the inaugural White City Neighbourhood Forum.

The committee has been set up to develop and steer initiatives to promote White City, Wormholt and Shepherds Bush, and deal with community issues.

The forum was launched at a community convention last Saturday (September 24) at the White City Community Centre.

Nominated to the forum were 14 representatives of local organisations. They were joined by seven local residents who were elected unopposed.

Harry Audley, Chairman of the White City Residents’ Association, said he hoped the new forum would bring together everyone with the area’s best interests at heart.

“We expect to share information and resources to obtain maximum benefit, not just for the opportunities that are currently available but also ones that will be available in future,” he said.

Councillor Andrew Johnson, Hammersmith & Fulham (H&F) Council Cabinet Member for Housing, also welcomed the new forum as a valuable initiative in delivering the Borough of Opportunity.

Cllr Johnson says: “I am looking forward to working with the new forum and its members to deliver their ambitions to unlock real opportunities for current and future residents of White City.”

One of the forum’s tasks will be to decide how best to spend grant funding on improving the area, particularly Batman Close, the Cleverly estate, White City Close, the White City estate and the Wormholt estate.

The seven resident members of the committee are Niniola Adetuberu, Harry Audley, John Gordon-Smith, Susan Iwai, Hoss Malek, John Ryan and Junior Sterling.

The 14 organisational members are Andrew Fullerton, Sheraz Khan, Linda Moll, Penny Asumang, Vince Hines, Joseph Jacobs, Revd. Ben Humphries, Sgt. Jason Carrigan, Sohail Ayaz, Andrea Lemard, Garry McMillan, Bob Still, Andy Sharpe.

I would like to thank all our members of the forum for supporting me, to deliver through regeneration and community safety initiatives, real changes. I look forward to meeting more community groups in the catchment area of this "Big Society" in action. I have been given an opportunity to assist by way of being elected as a member of the group. I would appreciate support to raise some core funding to get us started. I see that others have been successful in their efforts to raise funding, we are not an income generating body, or indeed able to raise funds without support from central and local government. With this in mind, I put out a request for an individual or large corporate body in the area we cover, to assist, in getting the start needed to progress, I would appreciate help in setting up a package of fundraising as well as the infrastructure to proceed, as a lay person in the area of finance, I would like to see someone with an accountancy and fundraising background come forward, I have written to the Hammersmith & Fulham Credit Union, I have yet to receive either an acknowledgement, or indeed a positive reply.
