Bitten by the book bug: Darnell Collins and Tarese Jouffe dress up as Dracula.

Monsters, mysterious creatures and magicians gathered at Queens Manor School as pupils celebrated World Book Day.

Children of all year levels at the primary school in Lysia Street, Fulham, joined staff in dressing as their favourite book characters on March 5.

The school's music coordinator Anna Wilson, 25, who helped organise the day, said:

"The children seemed to love the theme this year and really enjoyed dressing up. The idea behind the day is to get children more enthused about books, and particularly older children."

Memorable costumes included plenty of Harry Potters, Fantastic Mr Fox, Ghostbusters, witches and characters from The Wizard of Oz.

The school's 235 pupils showed off their wacky outfits during a morning catwalk event at the school, followed by other activities including reading relays and paired reading.
