Voter registration up
Wednesday February 17, 2010
97 per cent of households in the borough registered to vote during the annual canvass, according to latest figures.
Hammersmith & Fulham has one of the most transient populations in Britain but – despite around 30,000 people moving into the borough and another 30,000 moving out every year – the council has managed to capture the highest response rate in inner London.
A revised voters list was published in January showing that 124,096 electors are now registered.
“We have a very mobile population in H&F so our task is not easy but we have always sought to maximise registration,” says H&F Chief Executive Geoff Alltimes.
Local elections will take place on May 6, 2010 and a General Election needs to be called before June 2010. Hammersmith & Fulham Council is one of just three elite ‘Beacon Boroughs’ for Electoral Services nationwide.
Anyone wishing to register to vote, who has not already done so, can download a registration form from www.lbhf.gov.uk/electoralservices or call the electoral registration hotline on 020 8753 4466 or email electoral.services@lbhf.gov.uk.
