Volunteers honoured at awards ceremony
Friday December 16, 2011
Almost 100 volunteers have been honoured for their outstanding contribution to their local community by the Hammersmith & Fulham Volunteers Centre (HFVC).
These individuals showed exceptional skill and dedication across all areas of volunteering from meals on wheels to prisoner mentoring.
Eleven young volunteers taking part in a youth project at HFVC also helped to plan and run the event, including its stage management.
The Awards were presented at a packed Hammersmith Town Hall on Friday December 9.
HFVC Director, Marion Schumann said “What an excellent evening we had! There were so many volunteers who attended to receive awards and what wonderful stories about their volunteering experience. We, at HFVC must continue to celebrate recognise and reward volunteers for their sterling efforts to make Hammersmith & Fulham a wonderful environment in which to live. Long live VOLUNTEERING and Seasons Greetings to all! “
Cllr Joe Carlebach, cabinet member for community care, said: “We were delighted to host this event and recognise the magnificent work that so many volunteers are doing across the borough. The Volunteer Centre has been an integral part of Hammersmith & Fulham for many years and that is why the council increased its infrastructure funding recently from £85,000 to £120,000. The centre has helped people back into employment, given training to thousands of volunteers and, perhaps most importantly, shown that volunteering can be hugely rewarding and enjoyable.”
Following the presentation, the party continued with music and dancing from TNS, Kiera Lorelle Rhomes, Werewolf, Creative Kidz and Geoff Schumann.
HFVC who worked with over 7,000 volunteers last year, asked community and voluntary organisations to nominate volunteers who have been truly outstanding for the awards.
