Consortia Bouygues Partnership and Skanska Barratt HF Partnership in final competition to rebuild HF schools

Monday May 24, 2010

The transformation of secondary education in Hammersmith & Fulham has taken another step forward – two development companies have reached the next stage in the competition to become the council’s long-term strategic development partner for the £207 million Building Schools for the Future programme.

Following approval of the council’s far-reaching school transformation plans in March, an invitation to bid for the construction work, plus wider urban regeneration projects, was issued to companies across Europe.

Two consortia were short listed this week to work up more detailed bids. They are:

  • Bouygues Partnership
  • Skanska Barratt H&F Partnership

Each consortia will now be working on detailed proposals with the borough’s two ‘sample’ schools, Sacred Heart High and Bridge Academy. The consortia judged to offer the best combination of quality and value for money in their proposals for these two schools in addition to their suitability as a long term strategic development partner and to deliver ICT transformation, will then win the borough-wide contract to bring the whole education and regeneration vision to reality.

Andy Rennison, the council’s Building Schools for the Future programme manager, said: "The BSF programme provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to transform future generations’ learning, qualifications, jobs, and success in life. It will help more local pupils get into their school of choice by expanding popular schools. It will also add sixth forms in all secondary schools currently without one.

“It’s about so much more than the buildings. It’s about changing how we use space and harnessing the best that new technology offers in the classroom. It is also about putting schools at the heart of the local neighbourhood they serve. It will allow all our secondary and special schools to build on their existing strengths and raise aspirations and achievement across the borough.

“The prospect of bringing in the impressive experience and expertise that either of these partners has is a hugely exciting step forward in realising our vision to transform not just education in the borough, but the wider economic regeneration of whole communities in Hammersmith & Fulham.”
