The ace of Crondace

Thursday October 1, 2009

Another street cleaner has been singled out for praise by a happy local resident.

Only last month, sweepers on Askew Road were congratulated on their fine work. And now 33 year-old Tony Lewis, who works for the council’s street cleaning contractor, Serco, is being lauded for his hard endeavour.

Tony is regularly found sweeping the roads of Parsons Green. Happy customer Annabel Barkes, of Crondace Road said: “Our current road sweeper is the best that we have had in ages. Not only does he do an excellent job but he is thorough, reliable, conscientious and courteous.  Long may this continue.  We should hate to lose him.  My compliments to the council for their part in this improvement and to Serco for employing operatives of his calibre.”

Tony, of Fulham Court, was delighed when he heard the praise. He said: "I have been cleaning the borough for two years and I really enjoy it. I am motivated by making sure that residents' streets are clean and that they are happy when they leave their homes. I enjoy doing a good job. I do not work hard to earn praise but it is always nice to be appreciated."

Cllr Greg Smith, cabinet member for crime and street scene, said: “It is always wonderful when residents praise street sweepers and I am delighted that Tony is so popular. We have a very dedicated team of sweepers and I know how committed they are to making sure that the streets of Hammersmith & Fulham are clean all the year round.

“Recent statistics from the Tidy Britain Group show that 93 per cent of borough streets and cleaner than the recommended standard and that is down to the hard work of Tony Lewis, amongst others. With the help of Serco, the council is committed improving that already high figure.”

Tony has so impressed his bosses at Serco that he has been named Serco employee of the month for September.

Serco managing director, Mike Boult said “We understand and appreciate the importance of community engagement. We are extremely proud of the commitment and level of service that team members such as Tony are providing to the residents of Hammersmith & Fulham.”
