TfL slammed over Talgarth parking
Thursday February 11, 2010
Council bosses have slammed Transport for London’s (TfL) plans to replace less than half of the parking bays on Talgarth Road.
Around 70 parking bays on the westbound A4 Talgarth Road were suspended in April 2008 after a Transport for London (TfL) probe revealed that the footway was not able to withstand the weight of parked vehicles.
After months of wrangling, TfL, has now announced that it intends to restore only 30 parking bays, of which five are for disabled motorists and three are for loading purposes.
While the council is pleased that some of the bays will be brought back into use, it does not believe that TfL has gone far enough and believes that several more should be restored.
Cllr Nick Botterill, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment ,said: “We are hugely disappointed that TfL say they can only replace 30 bays. Our experts have looked at the plans and we firmly believe that they could be doing more to alleviate this serious parking issue. We will continue to work on behalf of residents and trust that TfL will be able to find a way to safely reopen more of the bays.”
TfL has also said that it will repave the pavement, install cycling racks and paint double red lines to clearly define where parking is not committed.
