Tesco turned down
Wednesday June 3, 2009
Plans to build a new Tesco store on Fulham High Street have been refused by H&F Council.
The 4000 square metre store was turned down on May 13, with the Planning Application Committee citing nine reasons including the negative impact it would have on traffic.
There were also concerns that the massive development, comprising the supermarket, 55 flats and a 181-space car park, was too big for the area and would have a negative affect on nearby shops.
The plans were also refused on the grounds that the site is archaeologically significant. Part of the moat that once surrounded Fulham Palace, thought to date back to medieval times, would have been destroyed to make way for the car park.
