Take Action on Elder Abuse

Wednesday June 17, 2009

The council teamed up with various agencies recently to support Adult Abuse Awareness Day (Monday June 15).

The aim of the day was to bring greater recognition of the mistreatment of adults wherever they live throughout the world and to highlight the need for action.

Guest speakers at the special event, at the Irish Centre, Blacks Road, included representatives from Action on Elder Abuse and Trading Standards and there were also stalls from local organisations.

Cllr Antony Lillis, cabinet member for community and children’s services, gave his support to the event and said: “As a council, we're committed to ensuring that we look after our most vulnerable residents. One case of abuse is too many. If you suspect someone vulnerable may be being mistreated or abused, please speak up.”
