Stupidest criminal in the country convicted

Tuesday March 16, 2010

A man has been branded the ‘stupidest criminal in the country’ after trying to steal a detective’s handbag from a room full of police officers!

Around 30 police officers were enjoying a colleague’s leaving do at Elk Bar, Fulham Broadway ON Wednesday, January 20 when shameless Mark Jimenez, 46, decided to chance his arm.

But eagle-eyed officers spotted the villain as he made his move and quickly bundled him to the ground.

Jimenez, 46, of Cranberry Road, Fulham, was given an 18 month community order at West London Magistrates earlier today (Tuesday March 16). He was also placed under curfew from 7pm to 7am for a period of six months.

Cllr Greg Smith, cabinet member for crime and street scene, said: “I can’t believe that anyone would be stupid enough to try and pinch a detective’s bag from a room full of officers. This numbskull had a rude awakening when he was rugby-tackled by 30 police officers.”

The leaving party was for Inspector Penny Mills from the council-funded Fulham Broadway Safer Neighbourhood Team - one of Britain’s first 24/7 police neighbourhood bodies.

Jimenez has also been banned from all pubs along Fulham Broadway.
