Strictly stars waltz into Shepherds Bush

Wednesday November 7, 2012

The stars of Strictly Come Dancing waltzed into Shepherds Bush last night for the opening of a refurbished dance studio.

Television judges Darcey Bussell and Craig Revel-Horwood were the star attractions as the West London School of Dance (WLSD) unveiled their state-of-the-art base.

The studio is in the Shepherds Bush Village Hall in Bulwer Street – a building that Hammersmith & Fulham (H&F) Council has recently sold in order to reduce its historic debt and concentrate funding on frontline services.

Rather than simply selling the building for housing, it was sold to the Widgoer Family Foundation who have been able to ensure that the occupying groups, including WLSD, have been able to remain on-site.

Darcey Bussell said, “I feel very proud to be opening this magnificent studio. The work of the West London School of Dance has been pivotal to the growth and development of so many young dancers’ lives for over twenty years”.

Cllr Nicholas Botterill, Leader of Hammersmith & Fulham (H&F) Council, also attended the event. He said: “We are hugely proud of the contribution that the West London School of Dance make to this borough. Whether it is an Argentine Tango or an American Smooth, we hope the new and improved dance studio might just nurture some of the future stars of Strictly Come Dancing.”
