Stop and Shop in Fulham
Tuesday November 17, 2009
Shoppers and visitors to Fulham Road will soon be able to pay just 20 pence to park for half an hour.
The council is creating 25 pay-and-display spaces on Fulham Road after discussing ways to improve trade with local residents and businesses.
The news means that from Monday December 14, shoppers will be able to 'stop and shop' directly outside their favourite stores. This is a 70 pence saving on the current arrangement that sees motorists pay 90 pence to park in a residential side street for half an hour.
Councillor Nick Botterill, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, said: "We have listened to the people who live and work around Fulham Road and we hope that by installing new bays and slashing the cost of short stay parking we will make it easier for residents and visitors to shop in the area.
"Our small shops and businesses are the lifeblood of our local communities and we will support them wherever and whenever we can. During these tough times businesses need every boost they can get."
The new bays will be available at the Fulham Palace Road end and the Parsons Green Lane end of Fulham Road.
The council will now be installing ticket machines and signs on Fulham Road ahead of December 14. Motorists are urged not to park in the new pay-and-display bays until this time or they may be issued with a parking ticket.
