See exciting parks plans

Monday November 23, 2009

Residents are invited to come and see exciting new play area designs for nine of the borough’s parks and open spaces.

Throughout the summer, children aged eight to 13 have been busy telling the council exactly what new play features they would like to see and the council is now unveiling breathtaking new plans.

Over £1m has been earmarked by the council to spend on natural and adventurous play equipment, embracing natural features such as grassy mounds, sand and climbing boulders to give children more natural opportunities to play freely and creatively.

Cllr Paul Bristow, cabinet member for residents’ services, said: "We have been out and about all summer chatting to youngsters and finding out exactly what they want from their parks. I am sure that they will be impressed with the new plans on show. Fun and exciting opportunities to play are at the heart of a happy, healthy and enjoyable childhood. These are your play areas so let us know if you are happy with the proposals."

Ideas up for consideration include hills to climb up and roll down, interesting pathways to follow and fallen trees to balance on.

In total 22 of the borough’s parks, open spaces and housing estates will benefit from brand new natural and adventurous play equipment, with work taking place in several phases.
