Schools admissions
Over 82 per cent of pupils starting secondary school in September in Hammersmith & Fulham have been offered a place at one of their top three schools.
More than 61 per cent of children were offered their first choice, while 14.53 per cent got their second preference, and 5.85 per cent were offered their third choice. Just over 11 per cent of pupils were not offered one of their six preferred schools.
The council has radical plans for extending parental choice and ensuring more children get in to the schools of their choice. A £175 million Schools of Choice programme, including expanding Lady Margaret and Sacred Heart schools, opening new sixth forms, and setting up a new combined Fulham Cross and Henry Compton school, was the subject of a major public consultation last year.
Councillor Antony Lillis, cabinet member for community and children's services, said: “Our proposals for expanding the most popular secondary schools and setting up sixth forms, are all about extending choice for parents by building on our schools' strengths. We want every parent to feel confident in choosing a local school and securing the place of their choice.”
