The love of learning is behind a perfect score in Sacred Heart High School’s Ofsted inspection. The school has been awarded a grade 1 ‘outstanding’ mark in each of the 27 performance ratings. Only a handful of schools in the country has ever achieved such a high rating.

Inspectors visited the school in January and concluded that “Students achieve so well because of their own hard work and enthusiasm for learning, but also because of the excellent teaching and support they receive. Teachers are highly skilled in inspiring and instilling a love of learning.”

The report confirms the school’s place as one of the country’s leading state schools, where 97% of pupils achieve five or more top graded GCSEs.

The report pays tribute to the students as well as the staff, saying Sacred Heart High is “an outstanding and fertile place of learning where students thrive academically, and in their personal and spiritual development.” The school’s success is attributed to its ability to improve on previously high achievements, exceptional leadership and excellent teaching by highly skilled staff.

The school’s long standing and much admired headteacher, Dr Christine Carpenter was understandably delighted. She said: “I am extremely pleased by the report.  I am very conscious of the contribution and support of all members of the school community in making Sacred Heart High School a truly outstanding school.”

Councillor Antony Lillis, Cabinet member for children’s services said; “Sacred Heart is a wonderful school and its excellence is reflected in its popularity. It gives local parents what they want from a school and is hugely over-subscribed as a result. Working with the school, we are planning to expand the number of places at Sacred Heart, so that more pupils and parents than ever before can benefit from the very special calibre of academic and personal development it provides. On behalf of the pupils and parents, I would like to say a big thank you to Dr Carpenter and all her staff and governors.”
