Playground building set for spruce up
Friday January 27, 2012
The Adventure Playground building in Sands End is set to be spruced up next month following agreement by Hammersmith & Fulham Council (H&F Council).
The building in Marinefield Road, Sands End, Fulham, will be given a makeover on both the inside and outside of the building, with contractors Mulalley & Company Limited carrying out the painting and decorating.
They will also be upgrading current toilets and installing new ones that will be accessible to everyone and meet equalities and disability criteria, as part of the £44,000 refurbishment.
This projects follows on from improvements made to another part of William Parnell Park – known locally as Pineapple Park – where the council, local schools and environmental charity Groundworks worked together to transform the area into a playground. The new-look park, which features a slide, stepping stones, a climbing frame with cargo net, a basket swing and a sandpit, was officially opened by Mayor of H&F, Cllr Frances Stainton on December 17.
Cllr Nick Botterill, deputy leader and cabinet member for environment, said: “We are spending thousands of pounds on regenerating this part of the borough and the popular local play facilities, and this work to the building will be hugely beneficial for all the children, young people and families who use the park and the adventure playground.”
The adventure playground centre is used by children aged five to 19, with local organisation Sands End Association Projects in Action (SEAPIA) running after-school clubs and youth provision from the building.
