Nursery garden opens

Children at a West Kensington nursery have been enjoying playing in a garden they helped create.
The garden at James Lee Nursery School in Gliddon Road has been transformed into an adventure playground with a castle like climbing frame and slide.
There are also plenty of nooks and crannies to explore, a covered reading corner and the climbing equipment is helping the three and four-year-olds to develop their upper body strength, confidence and agility.
Children at the nursery were asked what they would like to see in the playground and Julian Cochrane, director of Battersea based firm, JC Gardens, incorporated their ideas into the design.
It took three weeks during the summer holidays for Julian Cochrane, designer to complete the make-over.
Headteacher Marlene Slack said: “Julian has created an exciting learning environment for the children that also manages to be aesthetically pleasing. We are delighted with the result.”
Eileen Grant, the school’s business manager, added: “The garden is fantastic and the children’s absolutely love it – it’s so exciting for them.”
The play equipment is made with wood from sustainable sources and various recycled materials, and the structures has living roofs planted with sedum. The garden has also had a new lease of life with interesting and exotic plants.
