The new-look Askew Road Library was reopened by local novel lovers at a ceremony on March 24.

The Shepherds Bush library was unveiled after a £87,000 refurbishment and the addition of a post office inquiry counter, thanks to a deal struck by H&F Council and Royal Mail earlier this year.

The new inquiry counter means that thousands of residents will not have to travel out of the borough to pick up their missed post when they receive a 'Sorry We Missed You' card from their local postman.

In a double boost for residents, the deal has seen the library totally refurbished with new flooring and counters and a new children's library at the rear of the building.

Lyn Carpenter, H&F Council's director of residents' services, said: "I am delighted that we have been able to team up with Royal Mail and I am sure that all visitors will be thrilled with the revamped library."
