New dementia services

Monday August 17, 2009

A pioneering new service to support residents with low to moderate dementia or Korsakoff’s syndrome is being launched by the council today (Monday, August 17).

The daily service operates from a variety of locations – including Olive House in Fulham – and enables visitors to be meaningfully occupied in activities of their choice.

Leisure events, education, volunteering and physical exercise are all on offer. Individuals are also being supported in gaining access to services which are specifically targeted at older people such as luncheon clubs and therapeutic interventions.

A council spokesman said: “The philosophy of the service is one of relationship-centred care. We are creating the links that will help residents who use the service to benefit while still maintaining the social networks that are important to them.”

Olive House is open on weekdays from 9am until 9pm and can cater for up to 32 residents at any one time.
