National Food Safety Week

Monday June 6, 2011

This year, National Food Safety Week runs from Monday 6 June to Sunday 12 June.

Food Safety Week is an annual event held to promote the importance of good food hygiene in the home and healthy eating.

This year's theme is What Goes On Behind Closed Doors, bringing the spotlight onto what we all do in our own kitchens, with the aim of getting us to think about what we do when preparing food, whether what we do is as safe as we think, or could we actually be creating food hygiene problems we are not aware of.

As part of this national event, Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s Commercial Services Team are holding two road-shows. These will be held at the Kings Mall Shopping Centre and Fulham Broadway Shopping Centre on June 9th and 10th respectively between 12pm - 2pm. Why not come along and have a chat with the team?

We will be looking at some common food hygiene myths and explaining, for example, why we really shouldn't wash poultry and why we shouldn't eat food past its 'use by' date.

You can pick up valuable food safety information along with goodies, such as mugs, bags and fridge thermometers. We will also be holding a competition! Answer five food safety related questions correctly and you will be entered into a prize draw to win £150 of shopping at a supermarket of your choice!

For further information and advice about food safety or the roadshows please call 020 8753 1081 or email commercialservices@lbhf.gov.uk.
