More bays for Talgarth Road

Monday March 22, 2010

More parking bays could be reinstated on Talgarth Road following pressure from the council and local residents.

In February, to the dismay of the council, Transport for London (TfL) announced that it would only be restoring 30 of the 70 bays that were suspended in April 2008 after a probe revealed that the footway was not able to withstand the weight of parked vehicles.

But following a consultation on the plans, TfL has announced that it will be amending the designs to include several more general parking bays, a dedicated motorcycle parking bay and more cycle parking.

In addition some of the disabled bays and loading bays will be moved to better positions. The work is planned for June with notification of the exact dates and the final design issued to residents in mid May.

Cllr Nick Botterill, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “We have been demanding that TfL restores as many bays as possible and it looks as if that pressure has reaped rewards. We are delighted that TfL has seen the light of day and will be doing more to alleviate the parking problems on Talgarth Road. This goes to show exactly what can be achieved when the council teams up with local residents.”
