Mayor in lifeboat drama

Thursday June 17, 2010

The new mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham, Cllr Adronie Alford, was treated to a ride on the river by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) after she dedicated the Chiswick-based crew as her official mayoral charity.

Mayor Alford said: "I have enormous respect for the RNLI and was delighted to be taken on the river by the crew."

But the mayor got more than she bargained for as the crew were called into duty to rescue a stranded couple who had run out of petrol.

She added: "I watched as the young sailors were rescued. It goes to show how the work of the RNLI is important."
