Italian restaurant fined for flytipping

An Italian Restaurant that illegally dumped 11 large sacks of rubbish on the pavement has been ordered to pay £2,570.
Street scene enforcement officers from Hammersmith & Fulham Council 's specialist investigation team were out on a night patrol in November 2009 when they spotted the bags left unattended outside The Napule Restaurant, 585 Fulham Road.
When officers opened the bags they found food remains, bread, empty wine, beer and spirit bottles and dirty tissues. They also found some till receipts that linked the waste back to the restaurant.
On Tuesday, February 22, at West London Magistrates Court, the restaurant owners, Made in Italy Group, was fined £1,500 and told to pay costs on £1,070.
Cllr Greg Smith, cabinet member for residents’ services, said: “Flytipping is a disgusting habit and we have no hesitation in pursuing those who illegally dump their waste on the streets of Hammersmith & Fulham. The council spends millions of pounds a year cleaning our streets and we will not let litter bugs denigrate our hard work. The message is clear – if you want to flytip, be prepared to pay the price.”

The council’s street scene enforcement team has also been successful in prosecuting two men who were selling CDs on King Street, Hammersmith without a licence.
Steven Gomez and his brother Luke were each fined £385 for the offences which took place in July 2010.
