Improved childcare for borough parents

Monday, April, 20

Plans to improve out of school care for children are to be discussed by Hammersmith & Fulham councillors next week (April 27).

The council is looking to improve the current out of school childcare in the borough, by providing the service on school sites. This will complement the school’s delivery of extended services including breakfast clubs and after school clubs.

Cabinet member for community and children's services, Councillor Antony Lillis, said: "The new proposals for out-of-hours childcare will have a positive impact on working families across the borough. Parents will benefit from no longer having to choose between childcare and after-school clubs, as this new model means extended services and care will be available under one roof.

"In fact there will be a range of new and exciting activities on offer including sports, music, dance, languages and gardening. Another advantage is that fewer children will have to use the walking bus to get to their after-school club."

Under the proposals the number of childcare places remains the same and there are no plans to change the fee structure – including fees for working parents, concessions and the free places for children who do not, for a variety of reasons currently access after school care.
