Westfield parking now?

Tuesday May 19, 2009

Residents living in Shepherds Bush are being asked for their views on parking in their streets.

In June, residents in parking zones G and J will receive a new consultation letter setting out potential options for changes to the current parking controls. Those in zone CC will be asked if they want to keep the Sunday parking controls as they are or have them removed completely.

The move follows a consultation by Hammersmith & Fulham Council earlier in the year to find out which areas were most affected by the opening of Westfield. The council also used the exercise to investigate the impact the centre had on parking, especially in nearby Shepherds Bush streets.

On Wednesday May 13, deputy leader and cabinet member for environment, Councillor Nicholas Botterill, met Macfarlane Road Residents’ Association to receive a petition from people calling for changes to the current parking set-up in Macfarlane Road and Hopgood Street, which are in zone G.

Cllr Botterill said: “We want to find out from residents what longer term controls are needed in zones G and J. This means making sure we put in place a parking system that is fair and brings lasting solutions to the problems we have seen in the area.

“Our residents have some very interesting ideas and I am very keen, as always, to hear what they and businesses in the area have to say on this subject.”

Vivienne James, of Macfarlane Road Residents' Association, said: "The current restrictions are inadequate but a return to free parking on Sundays across the board will bring a return of the chaos we had in November 2008.”

The consultation questionnaire will be available in June, and residents will be able to complete it online.
