GCSE results 2010: Henry Compton
Wednesday August 25, 2010
Retiring head teacher Dinesh Ramjee was thrilled with the results at Henry Compton School, which in his final year, saw the number of pupils achieving five or more A* to C grades leap by one quarter, up to 80 per cent.
"It's about giving pupils choice, and subjects they can enjoy and feel they can succeed in," said Mr Ramjee.
Among the high scorers this year was Julian Fernando Arias Chavez, 16, of Stamford Brook, who achieved 11 As and one B and ultimately hopes to become a surgeon.
"I'm pleased because I was worried and I could have worked harder," said Julian. "Maths is not my strongest and in art there was so much coursework.
"I want to be a surgeon because I'm interested in anatomy, I'm quite morbid, and I think I would enjoy helping people."
Also hoping to become a doctor is classmate Ahmed Al-Hashemi, 16, of Canada Way in White City, who was reflective about his mix of A, C and D grades.
"I got what I deserve – you get out what you put in, and what I put in was not enough in most cases," he said.
Fellow pupil Fahed Elchikhe did better than expected, managing all As and Bs. He said: "I'm very pleased because I was expecting to get a couple of Cs. I'm going to celebrate with a little cake at my mum's house."
