GCSE results 2010: Fulham Cross

Wednesday August 25, 2010

Months of hard work paid off for the studious girls at Fulham Cross School, where 91.9 per cent of pupils achieved at least five GCSEs at grades A* to C.

Among the top achievers was Sarina Kiani, 16, of Townmead Road, Fulham, who bagged an incredible nine A*s and four As – enough to secure her a scholarship at Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith.

She said: "I went for an interview there and they asked me a lot of questions about quite academic stuff in each subject. I'm really excited.

"I want to study medicine and I'd love to go and practice overseas."

Fellow pupil Nada Showman, 16, is already planning a financially rewarding career in the city after being awarded eight A* grades and two As.

Nada, of Porten Road, west Kensington, said: "I kind of expected that because I'm the sort of person who after every exam tries to calculate the number of marks and figure out what grades I have – I can't rest not knowing how I did."

Less confident in her success was Ayesha Khan, 16, of Queen Caroline Street in Hammersmith, who nevertheless managed a clean sweep of six A*s and four As. "I was really nervous and was expecting much worse," she said.

Headteacher Bernie Peploe said: “I am absolutely delighted and proud to be a part of the continued success of our students.  In a truly comprehensive school which is committed to a diverse intake we are thrilled that more and more of our girls each year achieve A and A* grades across the range of subjects. We are grateful for the support and hard work of our teachers, parents and community partners in helping in realise this success.”
