GCSE results 2009: Fulham Cross

Friday August 28, 2009

Bernie Peploe, head at Fulham Cross Girls’ School, was ‘absolutely delighted’ for the students and their families, after the school achieved a pass rate at five or more A*-C including English and Maths at 70.4 per cent and at 83.3 per cent overall at five or more A*-C grades.

Ms Peploe said: ““I am absolutely delighted for the students and their families. I would like to thank all the staff for their continued hard work and commitment to ensure that every student achieves her full potential. These are our best results ever and confirm that Fulham Cross Girls School is continuing to move from strength to strength.”

Jasmine Taher, 16, was first in line to collect her GCSE results from Fulham Cross Girl’s School. The head girl – who moved to Fulham with her family from Cairo in Egypt six years ago – admitted suffering from sleepless nights in the run-up to collecting her results. There was no need to worry though with 11 A* and an A. She was ecstatic.

“I cried and cried when I saw the results in my hands in black and white,” she said. ”It was a long hard slog to get here especially with all the responsibilities of being head girl, as well as revising. I’ve had plenty of sleepless nights – but now I can celebrate. I set myself a goal and I achieved it.”

Sarah Tollan, 16, got 11 A*s. She said: “Before I realised that I’d got eleven A stars I was being really pessimistic – probably as a defensive mechanism. But I am over the moon now! I put in lots of hard work and now it has paid off big-style. I called my mum as soon as I’d opened the envelope and she just screamed down the phone at me. I was a bit stressed before but now I am so happy.”

Sarah is going to Lady Margaret next year to study chemistry, biology, Maths and English literature at A Level and wants to become a doctor.
