Free swimming for the over 60s

People aged 60 and over can now swim for free at council swimming pools in Hammersmith & Fulham.

H&F, in partnership with the local Primary Care Trust, is now offering free swimming to those aged 60 plus as part of a two year pilot scheme at both the Phoenix Fitness Centre on Bloemfontein Road and Fulham Pools on Lillie Road.

Cllr Paul Bristow, cabinet member for residents' services, said: "We are committed to help people lead more active and healthy lives. We know that money is tight at the moment, so we want to see if this pilot will help encourage older people to exercise. Swimming is the most popular way to keep fit for the over 60s."

To splash out without splashing out, just take your proof of age identification to either pool, which are both open seven days a week.

Our leisure centres are easy to access by public transport. The closest tube stations for Phoenix Fitness Centre (operated by GLL) are White City and Shepherd's Bush Market while the centre is also served by buses 283 and 288. The local tube station for Fulham Pools (operated by Virgin Leisure) is Barons Court and is served by buses 74, 190, 430.

The free swim offer comes as the council forges closer links with Hammersmith & Fulham Primary Care Trust (PCT). This move will see the two bodies integrate management as they strive towards the shared aim of improving the health and well being of residents.
