Food safety week is great success
Tuesday June 15, 2010
Residents were given free fridge thermometers and goody bags by Hammersmtih & Fulham Council last week, from June 7-13, as part of National Food Safety Week.
Staff were at Kings Mall in Hammersmith on June 8 and Fulham Broadway Centre on June 9 to offer advice on how to properly store, handle and cook food at home, to help keep germs at bay.
About 400 people visited the stalls over the two days, with185 people entering a food safety competition to win £150 in shopping vouchers. The winner was Grace Pounder of Westview Close, W10.
This year’s campaign focussed on how to prevent campylobacter - a bacteria that causes the greatest number of cases of food-borne illness in the UK - by cooking food thoroughly and avoiding cross-contamination.
