A Fulham sports club celebrated a month of double success.

First off, the Brunswick Club for Young People in Haldane Road was recognised as the Junior Sports Club of the Year at Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s Community Sports Awards on July 8.

They then recognised their own football stars at their end-of-season awards ceremony at the club on July 24.

The Brunswick, which was set up in 1949, offers a range of activities for Fulham youngsters, including football, boxing and youth clubs, and their contribution to the area was recognised when BBC Sports presenter John Inverdale handed over their overall award at the Champions Club suite at Chelsea FC.

Manager Danny Volino said: “It’s nice that we have a variety of sports for the children. It’s a safe place where kids can come and enjoy themselves and the staff are disciplined and organised and we take a real interest in the children’s development.”

The club runs football teams from under sevens to under 18s, as well as organising football tours and holding training sessions every week night.

Each age range received awards at the club’s own ceremony.

The U12s celebrated winning their division of the Harrow Youth League, while the U13s were chosen from 800 teams in the whole league to be commended for their sportsmanship.

Danny said: “It was a really good evening. Awards are just the icing on the cake though. It’s also about the kids who come week in, week out and who show the dedication to keep playing.”
