Double delight for Brunswick
Friday June 5, 2009
Brunswick Club footballers have clinched their second consecutive league and cup double.
Players from the historic youth club, in Haldane Road, Fulham, secured the Harrow Youth League under 18 premier division title on May 10.
They had already won the cup a week earlier after defeating Brook House Football Club 1-0 in a closely fought final at North Greenford Football Club.
The only goal of that match came towards the end of the first half when Brunswick player Remmel Clarke, 18, cut in from the left and curled a right-foot shot into the far corner.
Despite a strong second half performance from Brook House and injury problems plaguing Brunswick's Joe Dennis, Ricardo Fraser and Tom Brown, the defending champions held on to their lead and achieved a well-earned victory.
Brunswick Club manager and under-18s coach Danny Volino said: "The turn-out from Brunswick players, family and friends was excellent. The singing and support from everyone in the stand gave the match a really exciting atmosphere and made a big difference to the team."
Brunswick's under 8s footballers attended the match as mascots, cheering on the senior side. Danny said all the club's football teams had enjoyed a successful season and the under 18 champions were proving inspirational for younger players coming through the ranks.
"Our commitment, discipline and dedication set us apart from other clubs, and some of our guys in the under 18s have been with us since they were 10," he said.
Brunswick's under 16s came runners-up in division two of the Harrow Youth League, the under 15s came fourth in the premier division, the under 14s won division three and the under 12s won division two.
The under 10s, who play two separate 'phases' of competition during the season, won division two in the first phase and came third in division one in the second phase.
Brunswick's under 9s came fifth in division three during the first phase and improved to come fourth in division two during the second phase.
