Dodgy goods in H and F shops
Friday June 12, 2009
Over the past three years, the sale of counterfeit goods in markets in H&F has been reduced by 90 per cent.
But, following tip-offs, a recent check of 30 shops in the borough showed that 12 of those - 40 per cent - were selling fakes.
The shops included newsagents and off-licences, and the items included packs of Durex condoms, cigarettes and Duracell AA and AAA batteries, many of which were bought from suppliers the shop owners did not know.
These items are illegal and could be dangerous. Condoms and batteries have to meet strict safety guidelines, while counterfeit cigarettes often contain chemicals even more harmful than the legitimate product.
