Comedy bonanza at Apollo
Friday August 27, 2010
It seems a long time ago since the execrable but hilarious David Brent was inflicted on us.
The year Ricky Gervais’s character first appeared on our screens in The Office was 2001, in fact, and the comedian behind that cringe-worthy creation has gone on to worldwide domination.
Is there anything he hasn’t tried yet? This year he hosted the Golden Globes in LA, starred in British film Cemetery Junction, an animated series of his audiobook series The Ricky Gervais Show was broadcast on HBO in the US and Channel 4 in the UK, and his book Flanimals is being made into a Hollywood movie.
Now he’s in W6, performing at HMV Apollo from September 6-11. What’s next? 10 Downing Street?
Gervais is followed at the Apollo by Dara O’Briain, taking to the famous stage from September 16-25.
The big man has been there before for Live From The Apollo and TV appearances include Mock The Week and Three Men and a Boat.
So which one would h&f news go for in a Gervais v O’Briain face-off? Easy: the big man wins it.
If that slice of comedy floats your boat, look out for more acts at the Apollo this year.
