Come to our composting events!

Thursday January 26, 2012

Composting events are being held across the borough next month to encourage more residents in Hammersmith & Fulham to recycle their food and garden waste.

Hammersmith & Fulham Council is hosting four evening workshop events to promote home composting and is offering residents a composter worth £39 and delivery for free.

The events in Askew Road Church Hall, St John's Church Hall and St Mary's Church Hall on February 2, 6, 8 and 9, will have home composting advisers on hand who can advise on how to get started, what to put in your composter, how to use your compost and how to avoid common problems.

Voucher codes will be given to residents on the night so that they can order their free compost bin to be delivered to their door. (Composting bins will not be given out on the night.)

Composting is not only a simple way to reduce the amount of garden and food waste thrown in the bin, it also saves the council – and ultimately residents – £138 for every ton of waste that is not sent to landfill. Composting also means a free supply of compost that is great for the garden.

The events are:

Thursday 2nd February
6.30 to 8.00pm
Askew Road Church Hall, Askew Road, W12 9RN

Monday 6th February
6.30 to 8.00pm
St John's Church Hall, 374 North End Road, SW6 1LY

Wednesday 8th February
6.30 to 8.00pm
Askew Road Church Hall, Askew Road, W12 9RN

Thursday 9th February
6.30 to 8.00pm
St Mary's Church Hall, Edith Road, W14 9BA

The workshops are open to everyone. Please RSVP by contacting H&F Council’s recycling team at: composting@lbhf.gov.uk or on 020 8753 4199. Visit www.lbhf.gov.uk/recycling or www.lbhf.getcomposting.com (opens new window) for more information.

Hi following on from Rosemary's comments, Hammersmith Community Gardens Association would welcome the opportunity to host composting workshops in the glasshouse area in Ravenscourt Park

Great idea but most people dont have gardens in London and the council wont supply anything for residents to use so whats the use. Same way we dont get decent bike spaces etc etc. Good intentions but no means to do it!

May we have a composting event please in Brackenbury or in Ravenscourt Park area - the Brackenbury Residents Association will help promote it. Also contact West Six garden centre to help and maybe the people who use the glasshouses in Ravenscourt Park.
