Cash for better roads

Transport for London will give £3.8million to the borough to help reduce congestion and improve road safety.
Hammersmith & Fulham Council bosses have welcomed the TfL funding that will help pay for a variety of projects designed to ease congestion in London's most clogged-up borough.
Goldhawk Road will get a makeover that will improve road safety and traffic flow, starting with the upgrading of the crossing near Coningham Road.
Meanwhile, £200,000 has been allocated for a series of schemes that will improve the paving and signage on the Thames Path, including sections near Putney Bridge.
In addition, the Roadwise Rangers scheme, developed by Queens Park Rangers FC to teach children about road safety, will receive £20,000.
And £60,000 has been allocated to train local cyclists, while more than £1.4m will be spent on the maintenance of main roads.
H&F cabinet member Nicholas Botterill said: "We know that we have some of the most congested streets in the capital, which is partly due to historic issues with the layout of the routes running from north to south.
"This funding will help us to make some of the improvements that will help ease congestion and make our streets safer."
Every London borough produces a local implementation plan to show how it plans to deliver the Mayor of London's transport strategy locally.
Last month, the mayor confirmed £155m for boroughs to spend on transport improvements in 2010-11.
