A healthy boost
Monday February 8, 2010
A new healthy living scheme is being launched in Hammersmith & Fulham’s children's centres.
Boost, which is a funded by NHS Hammersmith and Fulham, and run by Mytime Active with the council’s help, begins this month and is running throughout the year.
There are three free courses specially designed for babies, toddlers and children up to four, which aim to encourage playing, sports and healthy eating in children from birth.
Parents can either attend regular group sessions or can get advice and information from a dietician on a one-to-one basis. There is also training available for H&F staff on how to show children the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, and offer advice to parents.
Miles Freeman, director of commissioning at NHS Hammersmith and Fulham, said: “We’re working hard to make sure that we’re giving residents the right health advice and support to help them live long and active lives.
“Getting the healthy living message across to children is so important because it helps set a pattern that they will stick to for the rest of their lives. It’s about giving them the very best start in life.”
