Tuesday August 24, 2010
The first set of sixth form students at Burlington Danes Academy in Shepherds Bush received their AS Level results last Thursday (August 19).
Ryan Walters was top of the class, achieving As across the board in maths, business studies, religious studies and politics. He said: “I can’t believe I’ve got four A grades – it’s beyond my wildest expectations!”
Other students who surprised themselves by surpassing their target grades were Fatima Huqoqi, who got three As in maths, business studies and sociology, and a B in English, Shamsa Ali who gained three As in religious studies, politics and English, and two Cs in maths and history, and Mohamed Abubaker who had two As in religious studies and politics, and two Bs in English and history.
Fifteen-year-old Bahga Katamesh, who is in Year 10, got two As in maths and Arabic, two years ahead of schedule and even before she has sat her GCSEs. She said: "I really wanted to do my AS-Levels early because I felt I was ready and the school were great in allowing me to do them this year. I felt pretty nervous picking them up but this is just brilliant. I am hoping to go on and do a PhD and get into medicine."
Principal Sally Coates said: “I’m delighted we received these results in the first year of our sixth form. I’m optimistic that students can build on these results in Year 13 and gain places at top universities.”
