Hot Locations
Hammersmith & Fulham is a rich slice of urban life in a compact
area of Inner West London. The range of locations and housing types
we can offer the filmmaker are broad and, whatever you are filming,
it is worth taking a look here.
The stately:
Hammersmith & Fulham has many affluent areas of well kept town
houses dating from Georgian to Edwardian and some classic London
squares with traditional railings and well kept central gardens.
Across the waterfront there are some marvellous historic buildings,
riverside walks, rowing clubs and moorings. Gentrified Fulham is
particularly good for upmarket mews properties.
Fulham Town Hall has an excellent Stucco’d white marble exterior
and some splendidly preserved Victorian rooms inside. Fulham Palace
and its extensive riverside grounds is an equally tranquil and antique
setting in the centre of London. The interior of Hammersmith Town
Hall retains the stunning 1930s features, despite the modern 1960’s
extension to the front.
Urban London:
Hammersmith & Fulham is a borough of extremes and there are
a wide range of housing estates from late 19th century Almshouses
to 1960s/1970s high-rise developments. Some of the architecture
in the borough is stridently futuristic (none more so than the “Ark”
office development in Hammersmith).
It is also a borough in which little remains static. For those
looking for the demolished and partially built there are two huge
developments currently in progress at White City and in the South
End area of Fulham. These offer some interesting filming opportunities.
For example, the slip road for the new White City shopping centre
is built, but currently leads nowhere and is closed to traffic.
Film makers currently have limitless access to a two lane road.
Despite the rapid redevelopment all over the borough, there still
remains some evidence of the Thames industrial past. Derelict and
deserted Victorian warehousing can still be found.
There is are two great colourful markets in the borough; North
End Road and, most notably, Shepherds Bush.
Open Space:
The borough has the full range of parks and recreation grounds
in all sorts of sizes. In the North of the borough you will find
a great expanse of heathland at Wormwood Scrubs. This urban wilderness
has recently been conferred nature reserve status.
