New tennis courts at Bishops Park

Worn out tennis courts in Bishops Park will be revamped to create a new 'centre of excellence' for the sport.

Hammersmith & Fulham Council has teamed up with the Tennis Foundation charity to renovate the grounds and provide 12 new full-size adult courts and four junior courts, with some sections floodlit so the centre can open till 8pm in winter instead of having to close at 4pm.

The council will be providing £170,000 towards the upgrade, with £150,000 coming from the Tennis Foundation. A further £20,000 will come from the Queen's Club in West Kensington.

Cllr Greg Smith, Cabinet Member for Residents' Services, said: "This is excellent news for everyone who enjoys playing tennis. There are so many wonderful sporting facilities in Hammersmith & Fulham and we are delighted that we will soon be able to add these new tennis courts to that list."

Work will start in the summer and half the courts should be finished in time for the winter season, with the rest following in December.
