Sports development

The Sports Development team is part of the Parks and Culture within the Resident Services department. It is committed to improving the sports opportunities on offer for local people.

In partnership with many local, regional and national organisations it is our aim to achieve an increase in participation, leadership, coaching and volunteering in sport and physical activity.

Currently sports development has a focus on:

  • Supporting sports clubs to become accredited and access funding
  • Improving communication about local sports opportunities
  • Increasing the coordination and number of activities on offer to young people (5 Hour Offer)
  • Assisting people to train as new sports coaches
  • Creating more people willing to volunteer in sport and physical activity
  • Improving the health of local people through targeted projects
