Sports strategy

A sports and physical activity strategy for Hammersmith & Fulham

In Hammersmith & Fulham we recognise the important contribution sport can make to community life. Our strategy provides a framework for the development of sports and physical activity in the borough.

The strategy outlines a co-ordinated approach to sports planning and ensures that our resources are used effectively.

The strategy recognises the need to develop basic sporting skills at beginners level. We also offer improved training opportunities to encourage people to develop their sporting skills to more advanced levels.

Everyone should be able to participate in sport regardless of their age, disability, gender, ethnic background or ability.

Major benefits of sport and physical activity are obviously the improved health and fitness of the individual, but increased participation in sport will benefit the community as a whole.

The strategy provides clear guidance for organisations in the public, commercial and voluntary sectors and identifies where the council can work in partnership with others to meet the needs of the community.
