Sands End Library

Sands End Library

Hammersmith and Fulham Council is pleased to announce that the brand new Sands End Library will be opening at Hurlingham and Chelsea School in May 2012.

The new purpose-built library will feature Internet facilities and study space and shall be open to both local residents and school pupils.  The library, which will be known as the Hurlingham & Chelsea Community Library, has been constructed because the council has sold the Sands End Community Centre.

This decision was taken after the council chose to sell some of its buildings and spend the proceeds on vital, frontline services during the unprecedented national debt crisis.

Across the country, local authorities are closing libraries as a result of the economic downturn.  Selling some buildings has contributed to the council securing the future of all its libraries and even improving the service we offer our residents.

The library will also provide a base for many adult education classes that used to run from the Sands End Community Centre and many courses have already made the move.

In order to bring about this exciting change and prepare for the relocation to a brand new facility, the council will be closing the Sands End library on Friday 23 March 2012.
