Computers in libraries

All our libraries provide computers, the first half hour per day is free, each subsequent half hour costs 50p.

Booking a computer

  • Computers may be booked by asking a member of staff at the Enquiry Desk. Bookings may also be made by visiting the library or by phone. Self-service bookings (vis kiosk or internet) may be made for Shepherds Bush Library PCs only.
  • Library members only may book one free half-hour session per day up to one day in advance. Subsequent sessions are charges at 50p per half hour
  • If you have booked a computer please turn up on time. Late arrivals may only be able to use the computer for a reduced length of time or may lose their booking altogether.
  • If a computer has not been booked in advance it will be made available on a first come, first served basis.         

What you can do

  • Access the internet and use the selected Microsoft Office and other applications provided.
  • E-mail using webmail facilities such as Hotmail, Googlemail and Yahoo mail. (Staff are not available to assist in setting up webmail accounts).
  • Use your own USB flash drive in the machine.
  • Download to your own USB flash drive but you should be aware that internet pages are subject to copyright law.         

What you cannot do

  • View illegal or offensive materials – if you do this you will be asked to stop by a member of staff.
  • Download and save any information to the hard drive – please use a portable storage device such as a USB stick.          

Any transaction conducted over the Internet is at the owners own risk. Hammersmith & Fulham Council accepts no responsibilities for such transactions. 

We reserve the right to restrict access to users. 

Charges

  • The first half-hour per day is free. Each subsequent half-hour costs 50p (free for Hammersmith & Fulham schoolchildren)
  • Charges are also made for printing and for floppy disks:
    Printing per A4 sheet – 15p for black & white, £1.00 for colour.
